Fitness, a catalyst for change.
Right up until the age of 19 my life looked as if it was either going to be wasted or just another drain on society. It wasn't until I walked into a Muay Thai (Kickboxing) gym and started training did I realize there was a whole lot more to life then just living for the weekends and partying.
To be brutally honest - which is something we all should do with ourselves at times - I hadn't achieved a whole lot in my life and the future wasn't looking great. Through moving up the grading system, fighting competitively and just consistent training I started to view and appreciate life in a different way.
I started learning things like self discipline , respect for myself and others and to do the right thing in society .Realizing we all having something much bigger to contribute to the world then paying bills and dying. So as I thought about what I wanted to do, through hearing an add on the radio about becoming a personal trainer (personally I think there is too many in the industry) did I ever consider it.
I thought about it and the a couple of short years martial arts turned my life around. I thought there might be something to this 'fitness game' and despite the incentive of tonnes of money and girls (that do not come with doing this) I thought I'd give it a shot. So I became qualified and moved to another part of the country to get a fresh start.
Long story short and almost ten years later. From signing up to a gym purely just to defend myself, 'fitness' has developed me into a productive member of society, given me a purpose, taken me around Australia and overseas all while being able to help hundreds of people along the way.
These days I have alot more tools in my arsenal to assist people make that change or just take their journey to another level. I believe exercise and diet is a huge part of the equation, but I see it time and time again people fail and get stuck because they haven't learnt the tools of the mind. Basic things like setting and monitoring goals, preparation (particularly with food) and over coming adversity - while maintaining your already healthy lifestyle - as I believe this is the key to hard times. When the mind and body are strong, you can conquer just about anything.
